Not quite what I expected
The Rockettes are a well trained group of dancers, and I appreciated the intricacy and difficulty of the numbers they perform. Going to Radio City Music Hall for the experience was great, and I am glad my family got to be there for the first time. I had no idea there was a nativity story in the show or the bit about following the mother/daughter on their quest for the perfect gift and the meaning of the holiday, or the 3D animated movies. I expected to see a lot less holiday kitsch and little vignette story dances and way more dances highlighting the renowned skills of the Rockettes. My 3.5-year-old daughter was stoked to see Santa so much and liked the first movie, ironically. There was something for everyone. I just didn't expect it and it took away time from the dancing, which is what I really wanted to see. In hindsight, I would have been happy paying $20 for nosebleed seats, as I paid about $80/ticket for seats in the orchestra section, about midway back. The experience was also more touristy than I expected. Everyone should experience a Rockettes show once, but I will not likely be back. Don't mean to be hypocritical given that I was a tourist visiting NYC, but I would have preferred that the show and theater/history just speak for itself without all the "shtick" and commercialism.
